Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today- March 20, 2012
“Then Naomi took the child in her arms and cared for him.” Ruth 4:16
There are heroes of the faith who care for the downtrodden, the dejected, and the diseased. In Jesus’ name these saints quietly serve foster children, inner city kids, and orphans who need a household of faith. Others unselfishly and nobly love the handicapped and mentally challenged. Compassion cures the ills of isolation with its consistent love and acceptance.
How often do you pray for and support these Christ-like caregivers? It may be your mother or father caring for their mother or father in the twilight of their years. It could be a church acquaintance at the side of her husband caught in the grip of cancer or a neighbor’s wife withering away from Alzheimer’s. Indeed, support those, who support those who suffer.
“In Galilee these women had followed Him [Jesus] and cared for His needs. Many other women who had come up with Him to Jerusalem were also there.” Mark 15:41
Are you the recipient of a compassionate person’s love? The world scratches its head in wonder at the wonderful deeds that flow from someone who loves the Lord. Your empathy, energized by the eternal, engages hearts in need of a Savior. So, if you pay for a stranger’s meal and the restaurant owner asks “Why?” with a grateful heart you are able to declare, as a Christian, that Jesus has paid it all for you—so you are honored to pay for others.
Most of all—rest in the compassionate and caring arms of your heavenly Father. It brings Him great joy to hold you close and whisper in your ear how He’s eclipsed your afflictions by His glory and how He sustains you with His grace and love. The Lord longs to love you through your trials. Especially, if you are a quiet, compassionate caregiver invite Christ to care for you. His comfort sustains you through the most stressful of circumstances.
“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” Isaiah 46:4

To rest in the arm of our Father? Pray and ask for peace and wisdom. It sounds like you are fighting allot of battles in your life.
