Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – October 30, 2016

Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—for she loved much.  But he who has been forgiven little loves little.  Luke 7:47

The breadth of your forgiveness reflects the depth of your love. A person who is forgiven much loves much. Outside of God’s good grace, we all have the same wall of sin between Christ and ourselves. We are separated from God by our sins, but the cross of Christ tore down sin’s barrier. By faith, we are forgiven of our sin and adopted by God as His child. By receiving the grace of God, we transition from the rags of this world to the riches of heaven.

Forgiveness is cause for gratitude and thanksgiving. For some, forgiveness was more pronounced because sin was more prevalent. Upon further reflection, our sin debt could have been more serious than we realized or were willing to admit. The lust in our hearts was addictive, and anger in our attitude was caustic. But God forgave us, and He still forgives us. This is another reason for love to resonate in our heart. Not only has Christ forgiven us of past sins, His grace also cancels out present and future debts of sin. The massive coverage of His forgiveness is pervasive.

There is no place you can go where the love of God cannot find you. You can run but you cannot hide from the love and grace of God. If you are depressed, He loves and forgives you; If you are frustrated, He loves and forgives you; If you are confused, He loves and forgives you; If you are lost, He loves and forgives you; If you are afraid, He loves and forgives you; If you failed, He loves and forgives you; If you are unfaithful, He loves and forgives you. Nothing can separate you from the love and forgiveness of God.

Therefore, you can love much because you have been forgiven much. Gratitude explodes from your heart when you ponder the depth of His forgiveness. The all inclusiveness of past, present, and future sins is wiped clean. The guilt is gone. The shame is erased. Your conscience is clear. You are freed from sin to love. Your gratitude toward God compels you to love Him and people. Sin has been replaced with your Savior, Jesus. He loves through you. Love is your primary language because you have been changed. You are a new creation in Christ. It takes a little getting used to, because of the sinful habits attached to your past life; but you are a new person.

Christianity was not added to your life like an appendage. Instead, Christ became your life. Now you live from the inside out. Your heart is full of love and forgiveness because of what God has done for you. You love continually and passionately because He has loved you with an everlasting love. Meditate on and measure the extent of your forgiveness from God. Can you fathom where you would be without the grace and forgiveness of God? Celebrate His forgiveness with love. Thank Him often for His forgiveness. Show your appreciation to God for His forgiveness by loving others unconditionally. Love the undeserving. He did. He does. He will. The forgiveness of God is matchless. The forgiveness of God is boundless. The forgiveness of God is freeing. The forgiveness of God facilitates love. The forgiveness of God produces love. Let this truth consume and compel you. To be forgiven is to love. You can love much because you have been forgiven much.

The Bible says, “We love because he first loved us” (I John 4:19).  The forgiveness of God is limitless.
