You’ll Never Regret It

Written by Tripp Prince

You’ll never regret making the kingdom of God the highest aim and pursuit of your life.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – December 13, 2025

And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.” Luke 18:29-30, ESV

If someone were to ask about the things that give life its deepest meaning and purpose, I imagine most people would quickly turn to family and home. “Home” represents the place where we belong, where we can be our truest selves, where we keep our possessions and live out our days on this earth. Similarly, our closest earthly relationships are typically with our parents, siblings, spouses, and children. Simply put, to speak of “home and family” is to immediately cut to the core of what we perceive to be worthy of our time and attention.

In light of this, when Jesus starts talking about leaving house or family, our ears should perk up. Why, we may ask, would anyone do such a thing? Are these not God-given gifts and relationships that flow from the very life of the Trinity? Of course they are. Yet we must never make good things ultimate things.

The life of discipleship demands nothing less than your total and complete allegiance. Devotion to Christ is not one loyalty amongst many, but is instead the single lens through which all other loves must be assessed. This is not meant to be the death of meaning or close connection in life. No, far from it. It is instead the reminder that when home and family is seen through the lens of the kingdom, it is a gift that we are able to receive, for we see them as they are meant to be seen. When they “leave” the place of highest importance in our lives, we are free to receive them as the gifts that they are.

You’ll never regret making the kingdom of God the highest aim and pursuit of your life. As Jesus tells us in Matthew 6, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). When we’re clear on our top priority, everything else finds its proper place.

Prayer

Father, keep our eyes set fully upon your kingdom, that all other loves and loyalties may be seen through this lens, we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
