Who Stole It?

Written by Wisdom Hunters

I find the treasure of Jesus Christ safely stored in my heart.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – July 22, 2025

by Martha Wilson

The thief does not come except to steal, kill, and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10

The cabinet filled with storage containers was overflowing again. The familiar frustration escalates as I cannot locate a lid that matches the one I need to store the few leftover green beans. I drop to the floor, and the matching game begins when it occurs to me this must be related to the missing sock drawer. I’ve concluded that a sock thief lives in every washer and dryer, sneaking into the storage cabinet to snatch lids and containers. I guess there is a dark, hidden hole somewhere that has my socks neatly stored away.

Daily, I confront another thief who seeks to steal from me. He roams about like a roaring lion, searching for more than just socks and lids. He comes to snatch away my joy, peace, passion, and purpose, leaving a cloud of heaviness, irritability, and confusion in his wake.

What in the world happened? Minutes ago, I was filled with faith, hope, and vision. In the next moment, I attended the meeting and realized my vision was absent. My commitment has wavered. My purpose and calling have diminished. My belief has vanished.

Where did it go? Who stole It?

While I wasn’t looking, busy with distractions and staring at things that didn’t matter, the thief stole from me. He is sneaky and watches for the slightest crevice to creep into and steal.

I kneel on the floor with a tear-stained face, calling out to God, trying to reclaim what the enemy has stolen. I am reminded of God’s promises to me and begin to preach the sermon to myself for the thousandth time: I am His, He is mine, and His plans cannot be thwarted. I find the treasure of Jesus Christ safely stored in my heart.

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:7-9).

The Spirit reminds me that the enemy isn’t truly after me, the container, but rather the hidden treasure. He seeks to steal the truth from me, trying to hinder my belief in God’s promises.

It didn’t work, Satan. I found the truth on the floor. There, the Lord sat with me, and one by one, He ordered my thoughts, reminding me of His truth in my life.

I stack them high in my heart, knowing that this is the truth from which I live.

Jesus is the power and the victory within.

Greater is He that is in me than he who comes to steal, kill, and destroy.

No weapon formed against me will prosper.

I am a child of God hidden in Christ Jesus.

His call on my life cannot be revoked.

He is the Overcomer.

The enemy can have my socks, containers, and even my cold green beans, but he can never have my heart. It belongs to Jesus.

Who is STANDING with me, even with mismatched socks?

Prayer

Lord, I am who you say I am. I stand in faith in the truth of Your word. I will not believe the lies of the enemy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
