Total Transformation

Written by Tripp Prince

Jesus takes on the whole of our humanity so the whole of our selves can be healed.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – August 15, 2026

Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them. Luke 4:40, ESV

In our day and age, we often struggle with the incarnational nature of our humanity. It is far too easy to live disembodied lives, disconnected from ourselves and one another. So often, our existence is reduced to flickering pixels on a screen, and our connection with the physical world is primarily through our fingers swiping and tapping on a 6-inch piece of glass.

In the Incarnation, Jesus takes on the whole of our humanity so the whole of our selves can be healed. He didn’t just come to save your thoughts or your mind. He longs to transform and renew your entire person, yet this requires that we are filled with faith from head to toe! Every part of our being must be aligned with his will and his ways, which means we must learn to reacquaint ourselves with…ourselves!

One of the most powerful ways to reconnect with your physical self is to spend meaningful time offline with other people. Put your phone away and go for a walk with a friend. Sit on the porch and enjoy an extended conversation with someone you love. Give your spouse a hug as soon as you see them in the morning. Physical touch is a reminder that we are not 1s and 0s inside a machine but are living, breathing creatures made in the image of the living God.

Though there are times in his ministry when he heals from a distance, such as the centurion telling our Lord to “just say the word” (Matthew 8:8), more often than not, we encounter stories like the one in Luke 4 where our Lord heals through an act of physical touch. As the incarnate Son of God, he lays his hands on his beloved children and speaks life over their entire being, body and soul. This is the invitation that lies before us today. Let us therefore boldly say “yes” and discover the power of the Lord’s healing in every part of our lives.

Prayer

Father, help us today to live integrated lives where every part of our being, mind, body, and soul, is oriented toward the life and healing of your kingdom. Through Christ our Lord, we pray. Amen.

Application

As a reminder of your physicality and humanity, find time today to turn the screens off and make a meaningful in-person connection with someone you love.
