Live Together

Written by Tripp Prince

A unified life of communion necessitates that we take a step of vulnerability toward one another.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – July 31, 2025

Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! Psalm 133:1, ESV

I recently wrapped up a week-long retreat with about 50 other men from across the country, all coming together for a week of prayer and discernment as we seek to better serve the Lord and his Church. It was a powerful and formative experience that left me deeply grateful for many things, including our extended times of prayer, fellowship over meals, and late-night discussions around how to serve our wives better and faithfully raise our children in the faith. As I left this retreat, the words of Psalm 133:1 settled into my heart, accompanied by a deep sense of gratitude and thanksgiving. “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!”

Whenever I’ve heard this verse taught or referenced, it has often been to emphasize the need for unity, and for good reason. Because of our pride, egos, and self-love, we often find ourselves lacking the humility and repentance needed to live in communion with those we are called to love. This is true of our lives at home and of our relationships at work or church. Yet with this recent retreat on my mind, I’m reminded of the necessity of community, living together as a sign to the world of the healing and reconciling power of God in Christ.

If we stay closed off from others, living in unity is unnecessary. The challenge and invitation into a unified life of communion necessitates that we take a step of vulnerability and trust toward one another. This isn’t just for the extroverts and socially-minded amongst us. No, it is a joy that is meant to be shared and experienced by all, for we serve a communal God who invites us to know ourselves as we know others, and most importantly, as we dwell in unity with his perfect love.

Prayer

Father, continue to turn us away from self-centered isolation and toward others, that we may know the joy of living together in unity as we encounter the perfect love that you share with the Son and Spirit. Amen.

Application

Consider ways to grow deeper in community and shared love with others who love the Lord Jesus in this season of life.
