I Can Do All Things?

Written by Tripp Prince

Christ gives you the strength to do all the things you’ve uniquely been called to do.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – May 30, 2026

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13, NKJV

As a young man, I remember vividly the first time I came across Philippians 4:13 in my Bible. It was like I had stumbled across a cheat code, a magical verse that no one had ever found before that was going to be my secret power. I can do…all things? My youthful imagination instantly began to run wild. I could be an NBA basketball star? I could have endless money? I could convince any girl to fall for me? Just think of the possibilities! Through Christ, of course. Through Christ. But still…all things?

In one of my first jobs as a young adult, I remember being in my mid-20s and talking with my boss, who was in his early 70s at the time. He was reminiscing about his career and talked to me about the moment he realized his life was not an ever-expanding horizon of possibilities but had begun to narrow. It was the sobering realization that he wouldn’t do all the things he might have wanted to do. He was encountering his limitations, both physically and temporally. There simply wasn’t enough time. He was not going to be a surgeon. He was not going to be a financial analyst. He was not going to learn a new language. On and on the list could go. He was not going to do all things.

Instead, he had learned the powerful lesson each of us has to learn. He was going to do, and through Christ was able to do, all the things he had been asked to do. Christ gives you the strength to do all the things you’ve uniquely been called to do. Sometimes this is the strength needed to do great things in his name: start a ministry, raise children, bless your neighbor. Yet other times it is also the strength to bear what would otherwise be a crushing burden: a cancer diagnosis, financial instability, relational heartache.

You will not have to face every trial known to mankind. Yet in all the things that come your way, in Christ you can be confident that you will be made brave and given the strength needed to bear even the greatest burden.

Prayer

Father, thank you that in Christ we can do all the things you ask us to do, knowing that he lifts us up and carries us even in our weakest moments. Amen.

Application

Remember that whatever you are facing today, Christ is with you and will give you the strength you need to face it with courage and faith.
