Flooded With Light

Written by Tripp Prince

“If God’s power can raise Christ from the dead, it can illuminate the darkest of nights.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – October 8, 2026

I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 1:18-20, NLT

It’s easy to allow our most pressing needs to define the condition of our hearts and minds. If we’re dealing with a new physical ailment, that pain or discomfort can become all-consuming, shaping our every waking hour. If we’re facing a financial shortfall, a scarcity mindset can set in, stealing our joy and generosity without warning. And when unresolved conflict leaves us in broken relationship with a friend or family member, it threatens to upend our entire disposition and view on life.

Of course, it is understandable and even natural that such moments would impact us. Yet when Paul writes that his prayer is that the Ephesians’ hearts would “be flooded with light so that (they) can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called…,” he isn’t writing to a people devoid of struggle or pain. The Ephesians, just like you and me, were filled with everyday hopes and fears, pains and sorrows that threatened to overtake their entire lives.

The invitation of Ephesians 1 isn’t to simply put your head in a hole and pretend struggles do not exist. The invitation here is to invite in the light of Christ and let it flood your entire existence so everything is touched and transformed by it.

Have you ever tried to walk through your house in pitch black darkness, say from the bathroom to your bed late at night? Even though you know the layout, you’ll still likely stub a toe and trip over a wayward laundry basket or misplaced shoe. Yet flip on the light, and instantly the way forward is made clear.

When the light of Christ floods your life, every challenge and every fear is seen in a new light. It isn’t that they go away, but they are right-sized, as it were. What felt all-consuming is now understood in light of “the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him” (v. 19). If God’s power can raise Christ from the dead, it can heal every wound in our hearts and illuminate the darkest of nights.

Prayer

Father, shine the light of your love into every corner of our hearts, reminding us today that we walk in the light of your truth, and therefore have nothing to fear, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Application
