Daughter of Love

Written by Boyd Bailey

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – September 4, 2020

This woman has been forgiven much, and she is showing much love. Luke 7:47

When the one you love the most loses the one she loves the most, there’s a deep sorrow that reflects the deep love. My heart aches right now for my beautiful wife Rita, whose mom Jean recently graduated to be with Jesus. I wrote this note to my bride to honor her love for her mom.

Dear Rita:

Your otherworldly love of laying down your life for your mother every day, all these years after she suffered a stroke, inspires and instructs me to love well. Calling her on the phone almost daily struggling to understand her expressions. Oh, how she anticipated that call every day knowing her daughter was going to love her well!! Hundreds of hours managing her healthcare, her medicine, talking to doctors and nurses. It’s overwhelming to me, but the love of Jesus in you left me in awe and worship of our Savior.

It almost looked effortless because that’s what love does; it’s a divine expression of the heart. You loved her so well. Your patient listening. Your peaceful comfort of your dad. After the doctor visits taking her to Nicky’s for a meat and three. Getting her hair done and shopping at TJ Maxx. You were her best medicine!!

You model for me and our four daughters, four sons-in-laws and our eleven grandchildren how to love beautifully and sacrificially.

My tears mingle with yours as your mom is having all of hers wiped away.

You asked me what we will do without her. I don’t know. But I know the love of Jesus that flowed through your mama’s life we will never forget. And we will emulate and we will celebrate! Her legacy will outlive her for many generations through the shadow of her influence over her grandchildren and their children’s children.

Your mama won her battles on her knees seeking to please an audience of One. She sat in the presence of Love to be loved, so she could love so well—as you model so well as her daughter.

I love you sweet Rita. Love will get us through because that’s what we do. That’s what your mama did.

Love in Christ,

Boyd
