“A divine partnership: You work out what God works in.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – June 3, 2026
The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. John 14:26
Your love and obedience open the door to a beautiful, holy community of love in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This divine community is an active, living love, waiting to engage the hearts, minds, and souls of every obedient lover of Jesus. Beyond being saved, there is a “working out” of your salvation that invites you to rest in the presence of perfection. Not a working out to gain your salvation, but a working out of love and obedience to the Lord, out of gratitude for His saving you. God’s community of love strengthens your spirit, grows grace in your heart, clarifies your thinking with truth, gives peace to your soul, and rest to your body. Are you being loved?
This is not a passive invitation. The Holy Spirit: the Helper, the Paraclete, the One who comes alongside, is actively present in every believer’s life, doing exactly what Jesus promised. He teaches. He reminds. He illuminates what would otherwise remain dark and clarifies what would otherwise be confusing. When you open Scripture, and something lands with unexpected weight, that is the Spirit teaching. When a truth you learned years ago suddenly rises in your memory at exactly the moment you need it, that is the Spirit bringing it to remembrance. He is not distant or occasional. He is near, attentive, and relentlessly committed to your growth in grace.
The theological term for this divine community is perichoresis, the mutual indwelling of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in an eternal, loving, self-giving relationship. The staggering truth of the gospel is that through Christ, you have been invited into that relationship, not as an observer but as a participant. John 17:21 records Jesus praying that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us. The community of divine love was never meant to remain closed. It was always intended to expand to include every person who receives the Son and loves and obeys the Lord’s commands.
Philippians 2:12-13 beautifully captures the dynamic, “work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” Notice the partnership. You work out what God works in. The Holy Spirit produces the desire and the capacity. You respond with obedience and love. Neither replaces the other. Both are essential. This community of love has a daily rhythm. It begins in the morning, when you bring your unfinished, unresolved, still-waking self to God before the demands of the day crowd in. It continues throughout the day as you practice what Brother Lawrence called the presence of God, a sustained awareness that you are never outside the loving attention of the Trinity. And it settles into the evening as you release what you could not control, confess what fell short, and receive the rest that only the presence of God can provide.
In practice, this means building your life around the ways the Spirit works. Scripture, prayer, community, worship, and obedience are not religious obligations. They are the pathways through which the community of divine love reaches into your daily life. A believer who neglects these pathways does not lose their salvation — but they do lose access to the daily richness of the relationship they have been given. You were not saved merely to be forgiven. You were saved to be loved, deeply, personally, and continuously, by the Father who chose you, the Son who redeemed you, and the Spirit who now makes his home in you. Are you experiencing the Father’s, Son’s, and Spirit’s beautiful and holy community of love today?
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17).
Prayer
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, draw me deeper into your community of love. Teach me through your Spirit, remind me of your truth, and help me live today from the overflow of being genuinely loved by you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Application
Set aside ten minutes today in complete silence. No agenda, no list, no requests. Simply receive. Tell God you are present and available and ask the Holy Spirit to make the love of the Trinity real to you in this moment. Then wait. The community of love is already there. You only need to be still enough to experience it.
