“Caring gives a heart hope and opens it up to receive the truth that helps them persevere.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – December 29, 2025
Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2
Be careful not to rush into fixing others before truly caring for them. Yesterday at our book club, I saw a friend skillfully show concern for another friend’s heart by empathetically recognizing his pain and then taking the time to simply be with him in his overwhelming suffering. Truly beautiful. The skill of caring for another’s heart is a delicate form of love that listens and leans into what the Lord might be saying to someone weighed down by guilt, shame, or pain. The law of Christ is love that is expressed with the curiosity of a caring heart: “I care about you deeply, and I want to be a source of comfort and strength for you in any way you need.” Care before you offer a cure to another who needs relief from life’s heavy load, and you will love like Jesus.
Charles Spurgeon emphasizes the source of our strength to carry each other’s burdens: “Christ bore our greatest burden, and through His strength, we can bear each other’s burdens, reflecting His selfless love in our everyday lives.” Jesus took on our sin and shame on the cross, so we are free to help others be freed from theirs. We draw from the deep well of our walk with Christ to gain the spiritual stamina and Spirit-led understanding needed to care for others. The law of love sets free in contrast to the law of sin and death that holds a heart in bondage. When you care, you bear. Caring gives a heart hope and opens it up to receive the truth that helps them persevere.
Once caring has eased the burden of a weighted-down life, then it may be appropriate to discuss ways to learn and grow from the difficult situation. Understanding the lessons hidden within challenges can provide a path to resilience and personal growth. By reflecting on experiences and identifying areas for development, individuals can transform adversity into strength. This journey, supported by love and encouragement, reveals deeper insights and empowers one to embrace future challenges with greater confidence and wisdom. Christ’s love cares and cures.
Followers of Jesus have the “mind of Christ” to discover and learn what He is saying to a soul in a dark and lonely place. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 2:16 that having the “mind of Christ” implies understanding and pursuing God’s purposes and living according to His example. You adopt a selfless, compassionate, and servant-hearted approach in your interactions with others. On an even higher level, you grow comfortable in loving the Lord with your mind, inviting the Spirit to renew your thinking with wisdom from above that brings freedom.
Move toward a community of Jesus followers who are quick to care and trust in the Lord’s love as the ultimate cure. Having your heart cared for and learning how to care for others’ hearts is priceless. It is the law of Christ in action. Engaged empathy bears eternal fruit, as God’s love is everlasting and never fails. Like a backpack loaded with bricks on the back of a hunched-over friend, if each of us just lifts out one brick, then the many have provided generous relief. Care before offering a cure, and you can be sure that Christ’s great love will bring hope and healing.
