“I have been given access and authority that have nothing to do with me and everything to do with Him.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – April 26, 2026
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, Abba, Father. Romans 8:15
As a teenage girl searching for a much-desired blouse, I stepped into the small upscale store in our little cotton mill town. I found exactly what I wanted, but I wasn’t sure if my parents would allow the purchase. In those days, you could take items home from a store “on approval,” signing your name promising to return it within two days. Nervously, I approached the counter and asked if I could take the blouse home for my parents’ approval. The salesclerk glared down at me and said, “I don’t know who you are! Who’s your daddy?” Standing a little taller, I proudly replied, “My daddy is Ted Matthews.” Her attitude softened as she responded, “Honey, if your daddy is Ted Matthews, you can take home anything in this store.” That was the reputation my daddy had in our community. He was a follower of Jesus, honest and full of integrity.
This 55-year-old memory reminds me that I was granted access to something because of my dad, not myself. It wasn’t my name, but his. It wasn’t my integrity, it was His. It wasn’t my ability to purchase, it was his. His character opened doors wide for me.
Today, I am reminded as a daughter of the King that I have been given access and authority that have nothing to do with me and everything to do with Him. His name carries authority, power, and privilege.
It’s hard to grasp that a relationship and an eternal inheritance were bought for me through Jesus’ death on the cross. I get to call God, Daddy. I belong to Him. He loves me and cares for me deeply. He has provided everything I need. His name opens doors for me that no one else can close. (Revelation 3:7-8)
Many scriptures speak these truths to me. Everything that is His has been given to me. His name, His character, and His blood give me access to all spiritual blessings. (Ephesians 1:3)
These truths should make us stand a little taller today.
If you have received Jesus as your Savior, then you have gained access to all these blessings. Stand tall and proclaim the name of Jesus. Take hold of everything that is yours. Expect your Daddy to make a way for you.
Prayer
Abba, thank you for adopting me into your family. Thank you for the privilege of being your daughter or son and calling you Daddy. Forgive me for living like an orphan instead of taking hold of everything that is mine through Jesus. Today, I choose to live like a child of the King. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
