“Truth unleashed through Jesus’ followers brings others to faith in the Truth!”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – November 3, 2025
“I beheaded John,” Herod said, “so who is this man about whom I hear such stories?” And he kept trying to see him [Jesus]. Luke 9:9
Herod is a paranoid ruler pacing his palace, haunted by a conscience that won’t let him rest. He had silenced John the Baptist with a sword, thinking he could end the uncomfortable truth-telling. But now reports keep flooding in about this Jesus character—healing the sick, casting out demons, speaking with the same kind of authority that had made John so dangerous. “Could John have come back from the dead?” Herod wondered aloud, his guilt transforming into fear.
Here’s what tyrants throughout history have never understood: you can’t kill truth itself. You can execute the messenger, ban the books, silence the voices, but truth has a stubborn way of popping up somewhere else. It’s like trying to hold a beach ball underwater—the harder you push, the more violently it resurfaces. Herod’s dilemma exemplifies this principle perfectly. He thought he’d solved his “John problem” with violence, but now Jesus was stirring up even bigger questions. The truth John proclaimed about righteousness, repentance, and God’s coming kingdom couldn’t be buried with John’s body. Truth grows like a wildfire ignited by divine fire.
Truth spreads because it resonates with something deep in human hearts—a longing for justice, meaning, and hope. Oppressive regimes throughout history have learned this the hard way. The more brutally they try to suppress truth, the more powerfully it surfaces, often in unexpected places and through unlikely voices. The irony is that Herod was curious about Jesus but remained unrepentant. When he finally met Jesus face-to-face during the trial, he treated Him as entertainment rather than seeking genuine answers. Curiosity without humility never leads to transformation—it only deepens the restlessness that truth always provokes in hardened hearts.
Unleashed truth cannot be contained, no matter how much power tries to silence it. Truth spreads through unexpected messengers when authorities silence mainstream voices—through underground networks, social media, and whispered conversations. It surfaces in art, music, and literature that bypasses direct censorship. Personal testimonies become powerful when official narratives fail—people sharing real experiences that contradict propaganda. Truth often emerges through consequences—lies eventually create contradictions that expose themselves. Historical records preserve what oppressors try to erase. Sometimes, truth spreads through the very persecution meant to stop it, as martyrdom often amplifies the message rather than silencing it.
Faithful messengers of Jesus begin by living out what they teach—integrity between private character and public witness is more important than being right. Listen before speaking; understanding others’ concerns makes truth more relevant and compelling. Share personal stories of transformation instead of just abstract theology—people connect more deeply with authentic experience than with arguments. Speak truth gently, remembering that hearts change through love, not force. Ask questions that help others discover truth for themselves rather than simply lecturing. Admit when you don’t know something; humility builds trust. Show genuine care for people beyond their spiritual decisions. Let your actions demonstrate Christ’s love before your words explain it. Truth unleashed through Jesus’ followers brings others to faith in the Truth!
“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
