“We can’t prepare for the battle in the middle of it.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – October 25, 2026
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16:13
Our adult kids insisted that my husband and I get watches with all the health monitors. We have found them quite helpful for monitoring sleep patterns, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and, of course, how many steps we have not taken. I was surprised when the watch vibrated on my wrist, and the notification read:
“Time to Stand”
“Stand”
It was a physical nudge to get my body moving, but it felt more like a command. It came as a spiritual reminder of what the Lord had spoken to my heart a few years earlier.
“Now is the time to prepare to stand firm in the last days.”
We can’t prepare for the battle in the middle of it. Now is the time to prepare. Urgency stirred in my spirit as I recalled Paul’s words in Ephesians 6.
“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (v. 11).
“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand” (v. 13).
“Stand firm then…” (v. 14).
There is no mistaking that Paul’s message to believers is a call to stand. God always ensures we have the right equipment for all He has called us to do. Each piece of the armor enables us to stand.
Today’s key verse offers much-needed guidance. These words should shake our spirits into action.
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13).
Be on your guard. Be watchful, alert, and prepared, knowing you have an enemy. Don’t live carelessly.
Stand firm in the faith. Always remain steadfast and unwavering. Hold fast to faith, refusing to be knocked down by doubt, fear, or any difficult challenge. Hold up the shield of faith against every fiery dart the enemy sends your way.
Be courageous. You can live courageously because the Spirit of God lives within you, empowering you to face any of the enemy’s schemes.
Be strong. We can be strong because Jesus is our firm foundation. When we are weak, He is strong. He makes us strong and courageous, even when storms rage all around us.
So how can we prepare today for the days ahead?
Seek to know Him intimately and to obey His ways.
Deepen your roots in God’s Word and remain steadfast in His truth.
Search for God’s promises and refuse to waver in unbelief.
Develop a prayer life that trusts God answers prayer in His time and His way.
Worship in the middle of daily storms.
Stand shoulder to shoulder with your brothers and sisters in faith.
Prayer
Lord, I long to stand firm in my faith. I don’t want to waver, but to live steadfast and unmovable in the days ahead. Give me courage and strengthen me by Your mighty power to endure whatever comes. Let my stand encourage others to stand. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Application
Be intentional about standing firm in your faith by setting a reminder, a sticky note, or a nudge to help you stand throughout the day. Choose one of the practical steps to focus on this week.
