The Savior of Our Sins

Written by Boyd Bailey

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – June 25, 2018

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21

The birth of a child is extraordinary, but the birth of God’s Son is incomprehensible for humans to fully process. Jesus the Son of God, embedded in the Holy Trinity, who enjoyed the glory of heaven, who has always been, came to earth to live and die for mankind. Christ’s incarnation invaded earth in splendor for the salvation of sinful souls.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:1, 14). Christ came to honor His heavenly Father by revealing His character. Jesus was God’s heavenly solution for man’s earthly problems of sin, sorrow, and suffering.

From what sins did He come to save us?  Are they limited to the Ten Commandments? No, there is no sin that is beyond the forgiveness of your Savior Jesus. Unbelief is exonerated. Pride is pardoned. False humility is forgiven. Adultery is absolved. Lies are let off by the grace of God. Sinless Jesus lived among sinful men and then died for their sins. He said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners” (Mark 2:17). Sin is a sickness that only faith in Christ can cure.

Because we have all sinned, we all equally need a Savior. Small or large indiscretions require intervention from the grace of God. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:23–24). You are saved from your sin by placing your faith in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah for the Lord’s righteous remedy that covers all our sins!

Have you humbled yourself before Jesus Christ, repented of your sins, and placed your faith in Him as your Lord and Savior? Is there any downside to engaging in an intimate relationship with God through Jesus Christ? Few, if any, have regrets for falling in love with the Lord. So celebrate your salvation, whether your walk with God is infant, adolescent, teenager, young adult, adult, middle age, mature, or elderly. Praise Him!

Jesus died for you so He could work in you and love through you. “But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!” (Romans 5:15). When you receive the gift of God’s grace, it keeps on giving.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I praise You for the gift of Your son Jesus for the salvation of my sins, in His precious name I pray, amen.

Application

Have I placed my trust in Christ for the forgiveness of my sin? Do I celebrate often His salvation? Am I compelled by love to let others know about His free gift of eternal life?
