“Pray that your child becomes captivated by Christ’s love.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – June 15, 2026
For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God. 1 Thessalonians 2:11-12
Just as your heavenly Father tenderly cares for His children, He cares for you and your child. Commune with Christ about your child’s well-being, trusting that heaven will bring to earth everything your child needs. As you pray, the Lord shows you how to love your child well, beginning with prayers offered early and often. Pray for protection from pride and for discernment to recognize lies. Prayers for humility and faith, planted in the early years, bear the fruit of wisdom and steadiness later in life. Praying dads humbly confess their need for God to lead them, because prayer is where dependence begins. Here are three powerful ways to pray for your children and grandchildren.
Thank God for Your Child “We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers” (1 Thessalonians 1:2).
Thank the Lord for your children, especially when they are hard to love. They bring moments of frustration, yet they remain a gift from God. Learn to laugh with them, and your prayers will grow more joyful and free. Voice your fears and frustrations honestly to your Savior and ask the Holy Spirit to discipline your heart so you can discipline theirs in love. Gratitude opens the door to grace and wisdom.
“Dear Lord, thank You for blessing me with this beautiful child, an answered prayer from conception to birth. Give me a grateful heart, even when my heart is broken. Show me how to love her well. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Pray Your Child Knows the Lord “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).
The greatest gift your child can ever receive is salvation. Pray that the eyes of his heart would open to God’s love, that he would recognize his need for grace, and that he would trust Jesus as a child and follow Him all his days. Pray for protection from the deceiver’s schemes, and that if he ever drifts, he would quickly come to his senses and return home. Pray that his closest friends love Jesus too.
“Heavenly Father, stir my son’s soul to know You. Draw him by Your irresistible love and protect him from lies. Show him he is Your beloved. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Pray Your Child Loves and Obeys Jesus “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching” (John 14:23).
Pray that your child becomes captivated by Christ’s love. Ask the Lord to fill her heart with the unfailing love she has witnessed in your home. A parent’s love is an extension of eternal love, so love as Jesus loves you. Pray that she grows emotionally healthy, treating others with kindness and respect. Pray that her obedience flows naturally from genuine love for God, because love always leads to obedience, and obedience always leads to peace.
“Dear Jesus, grow my daughter’s heart of love. Surround her with Your Spirit, that she may love others as she loves herself. Turn her love into joyful obedience. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Consider incorporating these routines into your prayers for your child:
Set a daily prayer time for each child by name. Even five minutes during your morning coffee or evening drive home can shape eternity.
Keep a prayer journal. Record requests and answered prayers; one day, give it to your child as a legacy of faith.
Pray with them, not just for them. Lay a hand on their shoulder at bedtime and pray aloud.
“All your children will be taught by the LORD, and great will be their peace” (Isaiah 54:13).

Heavenly Father, teach me how to pray faithfully as a father for my children, in Jesus’ name, amen.
