Pray For Our Children and Grandchildren

Written by Boyd Bailey

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – August 11, 2018

A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, ‘Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon-possession.’ [She] came and knelt before Him. ‘Lord, help me!’ she said”. Matthew 15:22, 25

Life circumstances can crush our faith or cause us to pray more earnestly. Especially when it involves our children, our resolve ratchets up more intensely. When we see our little one languishing in illness, we cry out to Christ for mercy. When our grown children reel from unwise decisions, our hearts break as we bring their needs before our Lord daily. Offspring caught in adversity involve intense intercession.

Great trials require great faith; so prayerful parents kneel before their Savior Jesus and solicit mercy on behalf of their son or daughter. Because the pain of watching a child suffer is overwhelming for the mom or dad, they need grace and mercy for their own emotional stability and peace of mind. Faithful parents offer prayers and need prayer.

But what happens when nothing happens? When Jesus is silent about your son’s alternate lifestyle or drug abuse, do you stop soliciting heaven for help? When nothing changes with your daughter’s promiscuity or pattern of lies, do you quit loving her? Grace does not give up but doubles down in determination to plead with Christ for help and healing.

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer” (Romans 12:12).

Children or grandchildren caught in Satan’s scheme of deception and irresponsible living need prayers flung to heaven with fervent entreaty. Jesus is listening. He cares. He can mend a broken heart and make it much better than before. The crumbs of mercy from Christ’s table of trust feed hungry souls who never stop worshipping their Lord.

So in your trial, or in your support of a loved one who is under severe affliction, stay true to pray and trust Jesus. Cry out to Christ for healing and relief. Receive His reassurance; resolve not to give up going to God for grace and mercy in your time of need. Great faith gets great results because you serve a great and compassionate God.

“Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I cry out for children who desperately need Your healing touch and loving care, in Jesus’ name, amen.
