“Do not discount the significance of small and unseen acts of faithfulness.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – April 4, 2026
Do not those who plot evil go astray? But those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness. Proverbs 14:22, NIV
Proverbs 14 reads a bit like a movie script. There’s a good guy and a bad guy. An evil villain who plots the downfall of others, and the heroic lead character who is defined by goodness and love. And while it may be tempting to get lost in the train of thought, there’s a universal truth contained in this verse that we would all be wise to remember.
We’re all plotting something, and if our motives are evil, we will be led astray, and if they are good, we will find love and faithfulness.
The truth of this proverb is seemingly so self-evident that we may wonder why they even bothered to write it in the first place! Well, to me, it seems that we are often blind to the plots that live within our hearts. We forget that the daily decisions we make are leading us in a specific direction. They are never isolated actions but instead are woven into the story we call “our lives.”
When you give into the sick and distorted desires that live in your heart, that seemingly isolated decision is instead like a brick that is laid along a path. It becomes a step you take in a clear and defined direction, and if you and I are blind to this and fail to change course, we must not be surprised if our lives are led astray in directions we would never have dreamt possible. Yet, thanks be to God, the opposite is also true. Every time you choose love over hate, self-sacrifice over self-fulfillment, and gentleness over anger, you are paving a path of faithfulness that leads you into the kingdom of God. Do not discount the significance of small and unseen acts of faithfulness, for they are the way that leads to life.
Prayer
Father, help us to daily choose what is good, making a plan to give our lives away so that we can truly find them within your life and love, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Application
What evil plot needs to be vanquished in your life today, and what good plan can you fan further into flame?
