“There is a morning love song that every human heart longs to hear.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – May 26, 2025
Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. Psalm 59:16, NLT
There is a morning love song that every human heart longs to hear. The lyrics of faithful love pierce the soul with peace, bring humble gratitude to the heart, and reveal unfailing clarity in the mind. Hear the melody arranged by the Holy Spirit; a sweet, soothing tune prepares you for the day. Yet, life is frantic with its demands, and it’s easy for me to wake up and rush into action without bathing in my Father’s cleansing waters of love and drying off with His warm, thick towel of comfort. Listen for your love song. Do you hear it? Your Lover longs to sing with you.
On the surface, this sounds like spiritual Instagram content—you know, #blessedlife. But pull back the curtain on this verse, and you’ll find something far more gritty and real. Picture this: David is huddled in his home as the night grows dark. Outside, assassins wait in the shadows. King Saul—once his mentor and father figure—has ordered a hit on him. David’s own wife has to smuggle him out through a window like some desperate scene from an action movie. His career is over, his reputation shattered, his future uncertain. And in that moment—with his pulse racing and his life unraveling, David reaches for… a song? Not just any song, but one declaring his intention to wake up rejoicing in God’s unfailing love. Talk about emotional whiplash.
It reminds me of my friend Jody, who sang worship songs during her chemotherapy treatments. “People think I’m crazy,” she told me, “But I’m not singing because everything’s fine. I’m singing and dancing because I need to remind my sacred heart who’s in control and loves me dearly.”
David’s morning commitment wasn’t born in comfort—it was forged in crisis. He wasn’t just being spiritual; he was being strategic. He understood that what fills your mind at daybreak tends to color everything that follows. Choose fear, and you’ll see danger everywhere. Choose gratitude for the Lord’s unfailing love, and you’ll spot evidence of it even in the shadows. This isn’t naive positivity or disciplined denial. David doesn’t pretend that the assassins aren’t real or that his situation isn’t dire. The entire psalm vibrates with raw emotion. But between the lines of lament, he plants this flag of defiance against despair: “Each morning I will sing…” A love song to the Lord.
What if we approached our troubled mornings the same way? Not denying the difficulties, but deliberately turning our attention to the Love that’s never failed us yet? Not because our circumstances deserve a song but because our Savior Jesus does. Because here’s what David understood on that terrifying night: love was never meant to be a weathervane, spinning with every changing circumstance. It’s more like an anchor, holding us steady precisely when the storms come. Being loved isn’t the absence of trouble—it’s the presence of God in the midst of it.
What song of love has the Spirit put in your heart? Let it begin as a whisper before dawn, when doubts still linger like morning mist. It grows stronger with each remembered grace—that unexpected kindness, the burden mysteriously lightened, the peace that arrived when logic said panic. Your love song has verses of gratitude and choruses of wonder. Its melody follows you through fluorescent offices, carpool lines, and doctor’s visits. Sometimes, you forget the words. Sometimes, your voice breaks. But remember—your love song wasn’t composed for perfect singers but for broken voices finding their way back to harmony with heaven. Sing out in love!
