Looking For More

Written by Martha Wilson

Every new morning presents an opportunity to unwrap God’s glorious gifts.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – December 28, 2025

For He satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul He fills with good things. Psalm 107:9

When my granddaughter Sadie was only two years old, she burst through the door, knocking over everything in her path. She hurried into the den where the Christmas tree was now bare. With disappointment on her face and desperation in her voice, she threw her hands in the air and asked, “Where all the presents go?”

She had been there for the unwrapping of the mountain of gifts, but now, just days after Christmas, she wanted more—more excitement, more surprises, more toys, and more presents.

I’m familiar with these feelings myself. After all the anticipation leading up to Christmas, the days afterward can leave you feeling kind of empty. The gifts have been ripped open, the family has gone home, and the leftovers have been stored away. Our hearts may be full and thankful, yet there’s still a lingering sense of dissatisfaction.

People, activities, and things will always keep us searching for more. True satisfaction comes from God.

He has blessed us with an abundance of good things, yet we quickly grow discontent and crave something new. We seem to thrive on the rush, the thrill, and activity, but the only thing that truly satisfies is a close, growing relationship with Jesus.

“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23, ESV).

Each new morning presents an opportunity to discover God’s wonderful gifts. These gifts never diminish; they are always available and ready to be opened each day. His love, forgiveness, grace, and mercy are found beneath the cross. His faithfulness awakens every new day before you even see the sunrise. His peace surrounds you like a warm blanket. His forgiveness offers a fresh start each day. Oh, how I want to embrace these gifts and find complete satisfaction in Him alone.

As you put away the nativity, keep Jesus close. Hold onto the Christmas words that will soon be stored in attic boxes. The gifts of hope, faith, joy, and love will bring fulfillment forever.

Prayer

Lord, because I have You, I possess everything. I don’t need a new gadget or a new feeling. I don’t need more gifts; I just need to fully embrace and unwrap the ones You have already given. Jesus, You satisfy my soul. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Application

Pause. Take a deep breath. Hold close the gifts He has given you, and ponder His faithfulness. Ask God to grant you a satisfied heart.
