Life in Christ

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – June 28, 2021

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. Ephesians 3:16-18

The object of our faith is the indwelling Christ in our hearts. Not faith in just a good teacher or a historical figure like Socrates, but total trust that Jesus Christ came into our lives by the generous grace and love of God. The Lord has made His home in our heart never to be evicted or estranged, ah yes, sweet Jesus is the landlord and tenant of our lives. Our security and peace rests with the divine One who rests in our spirit ever interceding on our behalf. Mind blowing to contemplate that our Creator has come to dwell in His creation, by His Spirit. We do not have far to go to learn where and how we are to go. Just a little talk with Jesus helps us walk with Jesus!

God gives each of His children a measure of grace to grasp what He has for them. It’s like season tickets to a divine Disney World with unlimited rides and no lines! But the beloved child of the Beloved must make use of this enablement of grace or it goes unused and underappreciated. The Lord’s glorious riches of grace are infinite and intimate—infinite in the vastness of capacity like the galaxy of stars and intimate in personal application to each individual follower of Jesus. The more believers take possession of grace by faith, the more their master takes possession of them. Life in Christ is the abundant life of abiding in Christ and Christ making His home in our hearts. 

 “Live in me. Make your home in me just as I do in you” (John 15:4, The Message).

Grace is rooted and established in love so the Lord’s power is what empowers Jesus followers to love and obey their Master. Recently I witnessed a rare phenomenon of a live oak tree rooted right next to serene still water. Rugged limbs, shaped by the elements over decades, with willing branches bowing in worship into the aqua blue reservoir drinking in life. This force of nature led me to make this the goal of my life: by grace in faith, to be rooted in love and always engaged in humble worship and prayer, drinking in the living water of God’s glory. Life in Christ gives life.

Your Savior Jesus offers you just the right amount of grace to develop your gifts into carrying out His will for your life. Christ in your life gives you the spiritual stamina to stay engaged in the process of offering your gifts and talents to those in a season of suffering. A young one battling a childhood disease, a family near the precipice of a financial free fall or a special person you know who desperately needs a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Freely share your gift of mercy, your wise financial management skills or your ability to clearly share God’s love through the gospel of Jesus Christ with those in need. Your life in Christ gives others a hopeful life. 

“Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective. Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real life—even though invisible to spectators—is with Christ in God. He is your life. When Christ (your real life, remember) shows up again on this earth, you’ll show up, too—the real you, the glorious you” (Colossians 3:2-4, The Message).

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I am so grateful for the life you give me through the indwelling presence of your son Jesus in my heart, through Christ’s love and in Jesus’ name, amen.
