God-Size Goals

Written by Boyd Bailey

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today- July 18, 2012

“Jesus replied, ‘What is impossible with men is possible with God”. Luke 18:27

God-sized goals are meant to challenge our thinking and further our faith. These Holy Spirit inspired ‘big ideas’ are crafted by our Creator to spur us on to good works and transformational living. God-sized goals make us uncomfortable at times. They are not guaranteed to happen, but they position us to pray more and believe in God better.

It is through prayerful planning and implementation that gigantic goals move from a mere possibility to a surer probability. Huge objectives are a hedge against mediocrity, and a prod toward perfection. God-sized goals are given to govern your thinking and determine your time, so that you are intentional and focused on His big picture. Otherwise, you can drift around without a rudder of reality, destined for disappointment.

Best of all God-sized goals get you to God. It is prayer and planning with significant progress that moves you from the realm of possibility to the place of probability. In most cases it is one man or woman’s passion and focus that proves catalytic in the creation and execution of the goal. The leader looks failure in the eye and extinguishes it by faith, wisdom, and hard work, all wrapped around a skilled and unified team.

Christ-centered possibilities, far outweigh man-centered probabilities. Perhaps you need to get away in solitude for several days, asking your Savior to sear your soul with His goals. Think outside the box of small belief, for the Lord is unlimited in His abilities and resources. God-sized goals arrest your attention, adjust your attitude, and accelerate your actions.

So, prayerfully set great goals, and He will grow your character in the process, while influencing others for His glory. Trust Him to teach you the way and to show you, with eyes of faith, way beyond the bounds of your experience, for His plan will prevail. The Bible says, “I know You can do all things; no plan of Yours can be thwarted” (Job 42:2).

Prayer: What goal is God giving me that needs to be accepted in faith, requiring hard work towards its accomplishment?

Thank you for the perfect thought for today. I have been praying for the wisdom about my upcoming mission trip to Kyrgyzstan. I have found comfort in Gods word. There have been several times I have read just the right thing at the right time that is a answer to prayer. Would you please keep our group in prayer for our trip this fall. Blessings to all on your staff.

The Savior always meets you in your need and this devotional is a prime example of that. The path that God has me on is filled with big ideas and tremendous vision, but these ideas and visions are so big that they can seem daunting to the human spirit. All I can do is trust God to be provision in this season of planting and HE will bring these things to fruition if it be HIS will. Thank you for allowing the Lord to use you Brother Bailey.

I just wanted to thank you for sharing the ‘God Sized Goals’ today. Yes, Boyd it is beyond our human ability and realizing only through prayer, a relationship with our Father, that the grace of His out pouring of the Holy Spirit on us, can we achieve these goals!

  4. On time word for me today. Thank you for sharing!

  5. Dear Boyd,
I have been discussing this very topic recently. It seems that lately, God has been giving me larger and more numerous projects than I could have imagined! God is all about wanting us to use the creative power He has given us to further the scope of the church, to reach out to the lost, and to encourage those who need it. We must step out of our comfort zones in order to accomplish great things for God! Thanks for your encouragement. Your messages are wonderful.
