“Being faithful in prayer means being ‘full of faith’ that God hears and cares for you.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – February 10, 2026
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Colossians 4:2
I’m not sure if hindsight is really ever 20/20, but there is a beautiful way in which God’s mysterious workings in our lives become illuminated when we look back. I could tell story upon story of prayers I have desperately hoisted up to heaven, completely unsure of how God might answer, of situations that seemed hopeless from my point of view, without resolution. And yet, time and time again, God had the situation perfectly in hand. His sovereign plan and timing brought me into a place far better than what I had asked or imagined. His provision has always been so much more than sufficient for the needs I anxiously brought to him.
And yet, there are still areas in my life that, if I pray about them at all, I pray anemically, feeling that they are simply too impossible for God to sort out. In that certain area of such foggy uncertainty in my family’s future, can God really work out a way for our good? When it comes to praying for that friend who seems so far from receiving the gift of Christ’s salvation, can God really reach him?
In reply to my doubts, I hear the gentle reproach Christ spoke to his disciples after he had calmed the storm they were sure would be their demise: “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (Mark 4:40b). Before facing that storm, the disciples had seen Jesus cast out demons, heal lepers, and grant forgiveness to sinners, just as I have witnessed his power and faithfulness repeatedly in my life. I am every bit as forgetful as they. If I spent more time reflecting on the goodness of God in my life, looking back at the wonderful ways he has led and provided for my family, my faith in his undetected workings could not but grow.
May I challenge you, as I challenge myself, to look back at the wonderful ways God has answered your prayers. Renew your faith as you pray for those sticky situations and impossible people. Then wait and watch. No storm is a match for his love or power.
Prayer
Abba Father, help me to remember the ways you have answered my prayers and provided all that I’ve ever needed and more. Renew my trust as I bring my as yet unanswered prayers to you. Amen.
Application
Begin keeping a prayer journal to record your prayers (yes, even the most impossible ones) and the ways the Lord answers. Look back at these monuments to his faithfulness in your own life whenever you struggle with doubt.
