Chosen to Wait

Written by Boyd Bailey

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today- October 29, 2012

“So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.” So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David.” I Samuel 16:12-13

Who God chooses He uses, but His initial lessons are learned in the incubator of waiting. David was anointed to be King, but would wait over 20 years before he became King. God’s game plan was to grow his leadership, humility and intimacy with Him before he experienced the honor of ruling over the entire Kingdom. Indeed, every follower of Jesus can be filled with the Spirit by faith, but the fullness of the Spirit may lead to obscurity not fame, submission not authority.

We are called to be faithful where we are and not to be preoccupied with promotion and recognition. The favor of the Lord is what eventually wins out, not our winsomeness or our skills of persuasiveness. So we wait—not in self-pity, but in self-denial. We wait and learn not to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders, but to cast our cares on Christ who has overcome the world. We work as unto the Lord while we wait and He does a work of grace to humble our heart.

“But you must return to your God; maintain love and justice, and wait for your God always.” Hosea 12:6

Is your waiting painfully growing your patience? Are you honoring those in authority, as you wait on God? It is a spiritual stewardship to be the best where you are with what you have. Perhaps this season of limitations is a time to tap into the Lord’s limitless resources. Be bold in prayer to seek out unconventional solutions from your Creator. His plan for you will probably look different from your friend’s faith walk. Perhaps Christ is calling you overseas to see His fullness.

Above all, invite preparation as a vital part of the waiting process. Your character prepared in patient perseverance can withstand an arsenal of the enemy’s assaults. Your life that automatically leans into the Lord’s love is able to radically love others. Your modest finances marked by generosity now are prepared for liberal giving later, if you experience His abundance. Embrace waiting while God makes you into His image bearer. Wise waiting is His secret to success.

“Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.” Jude 1:21

Prayer: Heavenly Father, as I wait on You, make me into Your image bearer of grace and love.

    p.o.w.e.r.f.u.l. thank you~

  2. So very wise! Those that have’t spent time in the waiting room can cause so much hurt and sorrow but I doubt if that was ever their intention. Let’s have forgiving hearts, it can bring so much healing!

  3. Interesting because yesterday I heard a sermon on Danial and the waiting seventy of seven time periods for an answer.

  4. NWW says:

When words fail me, I just say, “My God, my God, my God.” So powerful; so wise; so insightful.

  5. Jennifer says:

Powerful message and we are quite often led astray and forget who we should have faith in. Faith has led me on many a journey and sometimes through the horror of life but that faith and the Lords gentle touch has taken through these trials with peace and harmony.

This is exactly what I needed to see tonight. Waiting has been the name of the game for almost a year and a half now, and is indeed painstakingly hard.

“His lessons are learned in the incubator of waiting”
“Perhaps this season of limitations is a time to tap into the Lord’s limitlessness.”
“Embrace waiting while God makes you His image bearer.”

All things I know, but need desperately to be reminded of sometimes!
I started out tonight in tears. Within a half hour of pouring out my heart to Jesus, I was given the opportunity to share the truth & love of the gospel message with someone, and checked my E-mail to find this message. God does know exactly what our hearts need, and He does hold them in the palm of His hand!

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author & perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning it’s shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” – Hebrews 12:2

Very Powerful message. It has spoken directly to me and really blessed by it.Thus I have to humble myself under God’s leading and give myself wholeheartedly to work and service I am involved in be it in the God’s vineyard, home/family, work/job place so that in all things His name will be honoured and

  8. Andrea says:

I tear up reading this because it hits home and is soooo very true. I used to just go and do but now I wait and wait and wait. Sometimes wondering what I am waiting but always praying for God to show me – then I wait.

Thank you for this post. I believe with all my heart that I AM chosen to wait.

    – I have faith

    With Love,

  9. Rosa Linda says:

I have only received one at my e-mail address, is there anything else I was suppose to do in order to receive one each day. I just love it. It is totally awesome.

  10. Boyd says:

Rosa, You should receive one every day. Please email info@wisdomhunters.com if you continue to have this problem.
