Anticipate the Future

Written by Boyd Bailey

Since He has a track record of faithfulness, the Lord offers a hopeful future of what’s best for His children.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – February 4, 2022

There is surely a future hope for you. Proverbs 23:18

Sometimes I fear the future. I fear death. I fear dying a slow, painful death from cancer. I fear running out of money. I fear not finishing well. It’s in these moments of hopelessness that I have to remind myself to replace fear with God’s love for me. If I obsess over issues or people out of my control, I lose control of things I can control like trust in God’s love. A much healthier approach is to anticipate the future knowing I have a loving heavenly Father who wants what’s best for me. When I experience pain, He will walk with me to comfort my hurts. When I experience joy, He will rejoice with me. When I have needs, He will provide for me. I can anticipate a hopeful future with heaven as my ultimate destination. Love makes no room for fear.

Since He has a track record of faithfulness, the Lord offers a hopeful future of what’s best for His children. He is totally trustworthy. Almighty God’s future hope includes prosperity and protection. Prosperity in life’s most valuable assets—His intimate presence and deep, meaningful relationships with others. Resting in the presence of pure love is like a spa for the soul. His love massages out emotional aches with His warm oil of peace and forgiveness. Quietly, the love of the Lord restores the soul and protects the mind from lies. Future hope comes to those who trust.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you” (Jeremiah 29:11-12).

Come to Christ with your fears and His love will calm your heart. Come to Christ with your pain and He will comfort your soul and body. Come to Christ with your questions and He will provide clarity and wisdom. Come to Christ with your future hopes and He will prosper and protect you. A life focused on Jesus is a life satisfied in Jesus, your Savior and Lord. You can anticipate the future with hope, because eventually you will spend forever with your living hope—King Jesus!

Only when living with eyes on eternity does the future hold the most meaning and hopefulness. Death is for certain, but so is life after death. A heart captured by heaven anticipates and finds solace knowing the best is yet to come. This quote from Charles Spurgeon is reassuring: “Time is short. Eternity is long. It is only reasonable that this short life be lived in the light of eternity.Indeed, a life invested for eternity will reap rewards in eternity. Anticipate a future full of possibilities!

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3, NKJV).

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I anticipate a hopeful future, since my total trust is in you and your love, through Christ’s love and in Jesus’ name, amen.

Application

What future fear do I need to replace with the Lord’s comforting love?
