“When we surrender our wounds to God, He turns them into weapons of strength.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – June 8, 2025
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
Pain has a way of leaving us breathless. It can come suddenly or build up slowly over time, but when it hits, it can feel like the end of everything good. Whether it’s heartbreak, disappointment, betrayal, or loss, we all carry wounds that shape the way we see ourselves, others, and even God. But here’s the beautiful truth: God never wastes our pain. What feels like the end can actually be the beginning of something sacred – purpose.
One of the most powerful promises in Scripture is found in Romans 8:28. It doesn’t mean everything we go through is good, but it does mean that God is able to bring good out of it.
Think about Joseph. Betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, imprisoned unjustly – his story was marked by suffering. But in Genesis 50:20, he tells his brothers, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” His pain positioned him to walk in a purpose he never saw coming.
When my daughter first ran ahead to heaven, I couldn’t see anything good coming out of her death. How could child loss and a life cut so short be good? But only God could take something so devastating like child loss and bring some good out of it. He created a purpose for the pain.
Maybe you’re in a season that feels too dark to see any purpose. But God is in the business of rebuilding. He takes our broken pieces and crafts a mosaic of healing, hope, and impact. The very thing that tried to destroy you can be the thing God uses to minister to others. Your story matters – not in spite of the pain, but because of it.
When we surrender our wounds to God, He turns them into weapons of strength. He uses them to grow compassion, deepen our faith, and prepare us for assignments that require the kind of strength only pain can produce. So, if you’re walking through something hard today, hold on. The pain you’re feeling isn’t the end of your story – it might just be the beginning of your purpose.
“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast” (1 Peter 5:10).
Prayer
Father God, even if I cannot understand the reason why certain things happen as they do, I trust you. Pain is not pointless and I’m confident you will create a purpose for the pain and turn it into something that will help others.
Application
Take a moment and ask yourself, where have you seen God’s healing hand in your life, creating a purpose for the pain?
