Timely Transitions

Written by Wisdom Hunters

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today- September 6, 2011

When Israel came out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a foreign tongue, Judah became God’s sanctuary, Israel his dominion. Psalm 114:1-2

Timely transitions are necessary to teach trust in the Lord. Spiritually, it moves a life from being shackled with sin to one freed up by faith in Christ. Following Jesus is a transition from distrust to trust—fear to faith—insecurity to security—selfish to selfless—hell to heaven—lost to found—isolation to community—getting to giving and scarcity living to abundant living.

We move from the darkness of deception into the light of His love. Obedience to God transitions us from the foreign tongue of faithless living—to the Lord’s familiar language of faith. So, trust the Lord whether a transition feels forced or it is a conscious choice. In either case, Christ is in control—do not settle for a comfortable circumstance, if God is calling you to what may feel like an uncomfortable opportunity. Grow and go with Jesus during timely transitions.

“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:22-24).

Furthermore, take hold of a timely transition and accept it as a gift from God. It may be a career move full of fear and possibilities. Pray for a mentor as you make your way into a new field of study or work. A wise mentor serves as a reliable voice of reason and reality in an atmosphere of change. Like a father mentoring his son:

“My son, pay attention to my wisdom, listen well to my words of insight, that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge” (Proverbs 5:1-2).

Indeed, your timely transition may mean the last child has moved out, and you are left in a lonely house. It is an opportune time to shift your service outward from inward. Perhaps you make your home a sanctuary for a young person who has lost their way. Hospitality is a warm way to bring heaven to earth. A structured and encouraging environment exemplifies the love the Lord. Thus, use timely transitions as a trend that is your friend. Trust God as He transitions you to His timing!

“The LORD was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master” (Genesis 39:2).

What transition do I face that requires my total trust in Christ that He is in control?
