Richly Blessed

Written by Boyd Bailey

Richly Blessed… “A faithful man will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.” Proverbs 28:20

The Lord has blessed some with ridiculously rich blessings. It may be you are filthy rich relationally. Your marriage has grown over the years because you have been faithful to keep Christ central. You loved one another, even when you were unlovely, and you forgave abundantly. You may feel extremely blessed because your children love the Lord and wisely married men or women who love Jesus. Now they are blessing you with the unspeakable joy of grandchildren. Rich blessings await those faithful to God’s purposes.

A profound peace comes from knowing your Savior is ever present. He sees you faithfully serving out of your comfort zone and He is quick to comfort you. Like Nehemiah, in the middle of your test, He can convert a curse into a blessing, “Our God, however, turned the curse into a blessing” (Nehemiah 13:2b). Faithfulness gives you a foothold with God. “Surely you have granted him eternal blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence. For the king trusts in the LORD; through the unfailing love of the Most High he will not be shaken” (Psalm 21:6-7).

People want to be around humility and honesty. This air of dependency on the Lord blesses others who in return want to be a blessing to you. Thus, our focus is to remain faithful at “being” a Christian and let our “doing” flow from this foundation of faith. He blesses you richly so you can bless others abundantly. In the same way He instructed Abraham, “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing” (Genesis 12:2).

The blessings of heaven are bountiful with no chance of ever running out. The Lord is the initiator and sustainer of blessings, so seek Him with all your heart. Seek Him to be blessed, and in return to be a blessing to others. Am I in a position to be blessed by God? Can He trust me with His blessings knowing I will steward them with gratitude and generosity? “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3).
