“Stand firm, love generously, and pray faithfully: as His Kingdom comes and His will is done!”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – November 10, 2025
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. Hebrews 12:28, NKJV
The Kingdom of God cannot be shaken. Earthly kingdoms can be. On earth, the conqueror can become the conquered. Saint Augustine famously said in his epic work, City of God, “The earthly city, which shall not be everlasting, has its good in this world and rejoices in it with such joy as such things can afford. But the City of God is eternal; it reigns by truth, it is built by love, and it shall not fall, for God is its founder.” As Augustine highlights, God’s City (His Kingdom) is eternal and will not fall because the Lord God Almighty is the founder. His work has no end!
Since the reign of Christ’s kingdom is inevitable, as the Hebrews writer states, “cannot be shaken,” those of us who are faithful citizens are to serve by grace, while pleasing our King with reverence and godly fear. What does it look like to serve by grace? Jesus’ followers have a humble and holy confidence grounded in God, who never changes. We serve by grace when our lives remain loyal to love and obey our King, especially in the face of pain and persecution. The sweet aroma of service to the suffering and those snared by sin rescues some and gives hope to others. We are on the winning side. What love builds lasts, and where truth reigns is freedom.
The collapse of kingdoms on earth will always be ongoing, while the kingdom of heaven continues to grow stronger. As Jesus reminds us, there will be “wars and rumors of wars.” Sovereign states fall to their enemies, yet divine sovereignty never wavers. Even as nations tremble, Christ’s eternal reign progresses, quietly, powerfully, and forever secure in the hands of Almighty God.
The writer of Hebrews says, “we are receiving a kingdom.” How? Through faith in King Jesus and trusting in His reign. Colossians 1:13 states, “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.” Faith connects us to our King, and therefore to His kingdom. Just as we continually experience the filling of the Holy Spirit to bear fruit, He empowers us to keep submitting to King Jesus in our hearts right now, as Jesus taught, “The kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21). As you follow the Spirit’s guidance, you begin to live as a citizen of His heavenly kingdom, even before it is fully revealed. You are receiving it now, through being transformed into Christ’s likeness, lifting up grateful worship, and boldly sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. The tense of the word “receiving” reflects both the present and the future. You are receiving the kingdom of God, and you will fully inherit the Lord’s kingdom when Jesus Christ returns in His regal, reigning power.
So, what should you do in the meantime? You have dual citizenship. As a citizen on the winning side, you are called to act like a gracious, grateful, and humble winner. Use your divine advantage to advance God’s kingdom with joyful boldness. When the battle intensifies, instead of giving up, strengthen your righteous cause, knowing you serve the risen, reigning Christ! Be encouraged that every act of love and obedience echoes through eternity, demonstrating that even now, the unshakable kingdom of God is breaking through to fulfill the Lord’s plan. Stand firm, love generously, and pray faithfully: as His Kingdom comes and His will is done!
“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).
Prayer
Lord, I thank You that Your Kingdom cannot be shaken. When the world trembles, anchor my heart in Your eternal rule. Strengthen my faith to stand firm in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
