The Lord is There

Whereas the Lord was there. Ezekiel 35:10

Our immediate family has experienced seasons when the Lord and others reminded me of His presence with us. The enemy attacked our home with lies and temptations, attempting to divide us. But God was our rear guard, and the Holy Spirit remained vigilant, taking on the fiery darts of the father of lies. The Spirit renewed our faith and extinguished demonic deceptions. Even relatives pushed back against our beliefs, encouraging Rita and me to live together before marriage to ensure we were compatible—you know, “try before you buy.” What a lie! Their relational train wrecks were all the evidence I needed to do the exact opposite of their misleading advice. Our home was the Lord’s dwelling place, and all opposition to Him could not enter.

The Edomites, descendants of Esau, had a history of opposing Israel. When Jerusalem fell to the Babylonians, they exploited Israel’s vulnerability. Rather than helping their distant relatives, they viewed the destruction as an opportunity to claim the land for themselves. They believed Israel’s defeat meant they could seize its territory without consequences. However, God responded through Ezekiel, reminding them that Israel’s land was not ordinary—it was where the Lord was present. Edom’s critical mistake was thinking they could take what belonged to God’s people without facing His judgment. The phrase “whereas the Lord was there” powerfully reminds us that the Lord’s presence makes a place significant. Edom failed to recognize that they weren’t merely seizing land but defying divine authority. Consequently, they faced judgment for their arrogance and disrespect for God’s dwelling place. Regardless of circumstances, God remains present, keeping His promises and holding those who ignore His presence accountable.

Has your home turned into a battleground between truth and lies? If so, pray for Jesus Christ to reign over your family with humility, grace, truth, and selfless service. It begins with recognizing that the Lord is the center of your family’s decisions, interactions, and values. Humility intentionally places others before yourself. It involves admitting when you’re wrong, sincerely apologizing, and choosing patience over pride in conflicts. Grace means forgiving swiftly, extending love even when it’s difficult, and reminding each other that no one is perfect. Truth anchors your family steadfastly in God’s Word, encourages open conversations about faith, and guides you in making choices that honor Him. Selfless service shows love through action, such as helping without being asked, encouraging one another, and modeling Christ’s love each day. When Jesus reigns, your home reflects His humility, grace, truth, and selfless service.

Most importantly, model the way by surrendering each day to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. The Lord is there, present with you in your intimate one-on-one encounters, both daily and moment by moment. Allow Christ to reign over the battleground of your heart and mind, as this is where the enemy prefers to camp. Love is the weapon most desired by the Lord to drive out fear, diminish insecurities, and allow grace to grow. The Lord is there to give you wisdom with your choices. He is there to give you mercy and stamina to endure draining people and situations. Beauty flourishes in your life and is attractive because the Lord is there making you lovely.

Prayer

Lord, I thank You for Your constant presence. No matter where I go, You are there. Fill my heart and home with Your peace, love, and guidance. I trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
