Seasons of Change

Written by Boyd Bailey

Regret often looks backward, but celebration looks upward, seeing divine purpose in every transition.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – November 17, 2025

To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1

Our perception of the current environment mainly shapes how we view the world, influenced by our understanding of seasonal changes. What feels like an unseasonably warm day in winter seems cool and refreshing during the heat of summer. Wisdom can recognize, on a broad level, the inevitability of change. Infancy, adolescence, teen years, young adulthood, adulthood, middle age, senior years, and old age. Additionally, a mature faith can accept micro-level change by welcoming transitions within the broader seasons of life. As Solomon poetically states, everything has a season. Children at home are for a season, so laugh and cherish their childlike imaginations instead of wishing them away. Formal education is for a season, so cultivate habits of reading, studying, and understanding that will benefit you for a lifetime. Many relationships are for a season, so with a teachable spirit, learn from those around you and invest in them. On and on we could go on the cycles of change that transport the purposes of God in our lifetimes.

So, how do you approach seasons of change? You can embrace and celebrate, or you can resist and regret. Embracing change means trusting that the Lord’s hand is steady even when life shifts unexpectedly. Every season, whether joyful or painful, invites growth, surrender, and a deeper dependence on your loving community of the Father, Son, and Spirit. Regret often looks backward, but celebration looks upward, seeing divine purpose in every transition. When you anchor your heart in God’s unchanging nature, you can welcome change as part of His loving, perfect design. Today’s change may feel blistering hot, but tomorrow will warm your heart.

When your last child leaves home, the silence can feel overwhelming: lonely, unsettling, and full of ache. Yet, with time, you rediscover new rhythms, deeper purpose, and a rekindled closeness with your spouse. The warmth in your relationship returns in unexpected ways. Spontaneity roars back. Or when you lose a job, fear may scorch your confidence, but soon you realize the Holy Spirit is opening doors you hadn’t seen before. The change that once caused dread becomes a benefit that purifies your heart in love. If you trust Him through the refining, tomorrow’s blessings will remind you that His plans always bring energy, comfort, and the quiet joy of new beginnings. Seasons of change are an invitation to deeper intimacy with your heavenly Father and with those who know you the best and love you the most.

When life shifts and the familiar fades, your loving, all-knowing heavenly Father whispers, “Come nearer.” Uncertainty becomes the doorway to trust, and loss turns into the soil where faith takes root. In times of transition, you learn to listen more closely, rest more fully, and depend on His presence instead of your plans. Every change, whether exciting or uncertain, is an invitation to deepen your relationship, reminding you that God isn’t distant; He’s eager to walk with you through it all. If you lean in, each new season reveals more of His faithful, unchanging love. Everything has a season and purpose. A warm today is a cool tomorrow.

“And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding” (Daniel 2:21).
