“The more we gaze upon God in worship, the greater God becomes, the greater God becomes, the greater our faith grows.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – August 25, 2025
Hallelujah! Praise God in his holy house of worship, praise him under the open skies; Praise him for his acts of power, praise him for his magnificent greatness. Psalm 150:1-2
The ten-hour flight south from Atlanta carried me and a few friends toward an unexpected encounter with the divine. We’d come to Patagonia, Argentina, for fly fishing, drawn by stories of crystal-clear turquoise rivers and legendary trout. What I discovered instead was a masterclass in worship, taught by the Creator Himself under a canopy of stars I’d never seen before. As our small plane descended over the Argentine landscape, I caught my first glimpse of what would become a week-long revelation. The rivers were indeed spectacular – ribbons of liquid crystal winding through vast grasslands and towering peaks. But it was when darkness fell that God’s true artistry emerged.
From my journal that first night: “The star-studded sky took my breath away. Like gazing up at a dome planetarium, I was mesmerized by my Master’s magnificence. Praise Him under the open skies! The black backdrop was blanketed with a diverse array of diamond-clustered stars, planets, and celestial creations that only our Creator could have arranged with such a striking display of grandeur.” The Southern Cross, visible only in the Southern Hemisphere, offered no hint of disappointment on my first upward gaze at my Maker’s heavenly canvas. Orion’s symmetry contrasted beautifully with the Milky Way’s asymmetrical cluster of heavenly mystery, igniting my imagination. God’s grand design marched across the sky with a silent shout of “hallelujah!” An orange comet streaking across the darkness seemed to punctuate His glory with an exclamation point. My Savior’s nighttime blanket securely covered me in awe, worship, and profound peace.
Standing there in that remote corner of Argentina, I understood David’s words with fresh clarity: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge” (Psalm 19:1-3). Perhaps David, as a young shepherd keeping watch over his flock on the hillsides of his homeland, spent similar hours gazing upward at this same grandeur. The more David reflected on God’s vast handiwork, the greater God became. And the greater God became, the greater David’s faith grew. That connection between creation and faith became undeniable during my week in Patagonia. Each night brought new revelations written across the heavens. The Creator who showed His acts of power to humble David in battle with Goliath was the same God, arraying His magnificent greatness in worship under these open skies. The vastness above made my earthly concerns seem appropriately small while simultaneously making my God appear magnificently large.
This experience reminded me that worship doesn’t require four walls and a steeple. Sometimes the most profound encounters with God happen when we simply look up and allow His creation to speak. The psalmist commands us to “praise him under the open skies” for good reason – there’s something about the unfiltered expanse of heaven that strips away our self-importance and draws us into authentic worship.
As Paul reminds us in Romans 1:20, “Since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made.” In Patagonia’s night sky, those invisible qualities became brilliantly visible, leaving me without excuse but to fall prostrate in worship.
So I invite you: look upward at your Creator’s handiwork and be humbled by His work yet to be done in your heart. Look upward at the beauty of God’s creation and be affirmed as the pinnacle of His beautiful creation. Look upward at the greatness of Almighty God, so your faith might grow great. Whether in His holy house of worship or under the open skies, lift your eyes and let creation teach you to love Him, worship Him, and follow Him with renewed wonder.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I praise you for the grandeur of your creation, in Jesus’ name, amen.

With whom outside the faith can I discuss how creation reveals my Creator and God?
