Morning

Written by Wisdom Hunters

“We don’t always feel God’s presence in the morning, but these little practices we do daily (even if we forget nearly half the days to do them) help build a relationship with him.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – July 15, 2025

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

Since winter, I’ve been stopping at my front window to watch the sunrise almost every morning, sometimes singing as it ascends. The practice has helped my heart prepare for the days, especially the frosty ones.

But today at sunrise, I walked out my front door to check on some potted flowers I’ve been preparing for their summer home and felt like I’d walked into a music hall where all the musicians were tuning their instruments. It was raucous! The cardinals with their “pew pew pew!” A massive round of mumbles and yeeps from the robins and chorus of human-like whistles from the white-throated sparrows!

I’ve been listening to these birds for over a year, tracking them on my Merlin Bird App. But I’ve never heard them this loud. As the volume increased, it dawned on me they were getting louder the higher the sun rose, as if they were crying out, “It’s morning, it’s morning, wake up!” (Who needs a rooster when you have these guys?)

Every day, I tell the ranunculus plants, “Glorify God. It’s your only job!” (Am I the only one who talks to plants?) And today, for the first time, the ranunculus had buds! They’re really going to bloom!

As the sun rose, the flowers responded, and the birds sang to their hearts’ delight, scripture entered my mind as forcefully as the birds’ songs had entered my ears. “Consider the lilies…” “Consider the birds of the air.” God cares for them, and you more!

I’ve read these verses so many times, but this morning, God allowed me to live them.

I’ve been watching for God from behind my front window. Seems like I’ve already asked Him a million times for mercy, and he has granted me so much grace. But today was over the top. I felt God to be merciful … and true … and present.

We don’t always feel His presence in the morning, but these little practices we do daily (even if we forget almost half the days to do them) help build a relationship with him. And, sometimes, even on a day we might’ve forgotten to ask, God blesses us with a morning more wonderful, even, than we could even have imagined.

Prayer

Lord, let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. (From Psalm 143:8, and better than a prayer I could write myself. ☺)

Application

Don’t give up on daily practices of seeking God. Look for him every morning. Read your Bible, pray, sing, look out the window. Draw near to him in whatever creative ways you can think of, and never give up.
