Let’s Go God

Written by Boyd Bailey

The Lord reveals His ways to His children He can trust…so you trust Him, so He can trust you.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – January 23, 2023

By faith Abraham when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. Hebrews 11:8

The Holy Spirit normally directs a moving object…a life willing to take the next step, even when the journey lacks clarity. Fear and uncertainty cause those with a fickle faith to make excuses, procrastinate, catastrophize worst-case scenarios, and in the process miss God’s best. When you know it’s God…you go with God…even when His call is unclear you know He can be trusted with the next step of faith and obedience. The Lord reveals His ways to His children He can trust…so you trust Him, so He can trust you. Instead of asking “God, what if?” say, “God, let’s go!” You may not know where you are going, but you can trust the Spirit will lead you.

Abraham…the friend of God…trusted his friend…he went out with God not knowing where he was going. Friendship is tested in the unknown…will your friend remain faithful when the days are difficult and painful…will you remain faithful when your friend seems distant and uncaring? Abraham did. Abraham trusted his best friend…the Lord God because he knew his friend had his back and he knew his friend would also lead him forward. Your finely tuned logic may actually work against your faithful trust in your heavenly Father. If you have to have all the answers before you move forward, then pride has captured your heart to assume you understand all the questions in the first place. Abraham was captivated by one act of obedience, “Let’s go God.”

“And the scripture was fulfilled that says, ‘Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,’ and he was called God’s friend” (James 2:23).

What is keeping you from taking the next step with God? Start by embracing Jesus as your friend who sticks closer than a brother or sister…100% trustworthy…who wants His very best for you. Friendships are forged in the heat of hard times when you really are in need of a safe place to rest and refresh. Past experience may be feeding your fears, but you can count on your forever friend to do what He says. Stare down concerns with the confidence of being in Christ and knowing He gives grace and wisdom to humble hearts. Stop looking for a sign and focus on the trustworthy face of your friend—Jesus. Go out with God…and celebrate experiencing His great adventure.

Oswald Chambers describes the daily attitude of going out with God, “Each morning as you wake, there is a new opportunity to ‘go out,’ building your confidence in God. ‘…do not worry about your life…nor about the body…’ (Luke 12:22). In other words, don’t worry about the things that concerned you before you did ‘go out.’ Have you been asking God what He is going to do? He will never tell you. God does not tell you what He is going to do— He reveals to you who He is. Do you believe in a miracle–working God, and will you “go out” in complete surrender to Him until you are not surprised one iota by anything He does? Believe God is always the God you know Him to be when you are nearest to Him. Then think how unnecessary and disrespectful worry is! Let the attitude of your life be a continual willingness to ‘go out’ in dependence upon God, and your life will have a sacred and inexpressible charm about it that is very satisfying to Jesus.” Go out in dependence on God to know Him and to boldly follow Him.

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace” (Numbers 6:24-26).

Prayer

Heavenly Father, by faith I will go out with you to better know you and follow you, through Christ’s love, and in Jesus’ name, amen.

Application
