Immovable God

Written by Wisdom Hunters

We hold on to our faith, knowing that the Promise will appear in God’s perfect timing.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – August 19, 2025

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1, NIV

The mountains of Vancouver, B.C. took my breath away. On many days while visiting there, I mistakenly called them clouds because I had never seen mountains reach that far into the sky. After settling into our hotel room, I opened the curtains, and right in front of my eyes was the most majestic mountain I had ever beheld. It was a clear day with no clouds in the sky, and the mountain stood as an immovable monument.

Warm tears trickled down my tired face as I felt so small, staring at God’s overwhelming presence and majesty.  I understood why the Bible often speaks of the “mountain of God.”

Early the following morning, I eagerly jumped out of bed, anticipating the view. I pulled on the curtain cord to glimpse majesty before pouring my first cup of coffee. To my surprise, the mountain was gone—vanished!

How could it be? I was confused, unable to comprehend the removal of the mountain.

I strained my eyes, knowing it was impossible to remove. I anticipated the reappearance, but there was no mountain. I know there is such a thing as jetlag, but I also know I had seen the mountain the day before, and truly, it was immovable.

It felt too much like life as I had known it. Often, we climb into bed with one reality, only to awaken to alarming news. Life is going one way, and suddenly, everything changes. Yesterday was exhilarating, but shock and unbelief fill today. Huge questions arise amid fear, doubt, and shock. Our minds convince us that it cannot be true, but our eyes tell a different story.  I know that you have felt it also.

We stare at “what is not” while we wait for the Promise to appear.

By faith, we wait for God’s promises to manifest, staring at what is not yet visible. We stand in expectation, knowing that the Promise will appear in God’s perfect timing.

As the morning unfolded, the clouds crawled forward, and the mountain began to show a peek of its beauty once again. Of course, it was there all along, but I couldn’t see it. I had to wait, expect, and believe in the truth. I was convinced that the unseen mountain was there; likewise, I am confident and convinced that God is always present and immovable.

“God is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do it? Has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19).

Prayer

Dear Lord, when the clouds of this life seem to cover your presence, give me faith to believe, knowing that You are a mighty fortress that cannot be moved or shaken. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Application
