“God’s word points to Truth, and prayer adjusts my life to God.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – October 26, 2025
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4:23, NIV
I remember the first time I fearfully shuffled into the chiropractor’s office. Although I had been there many times with my husband, I wasn’t eager to participate in the adjustments on the other side of the waiting room. As I lay on the spinolator table listening to soothing music, my fears started to fade as I relaxed, and the knots began to loosen. My kind and caring doctor friend stepped into the room and explained the adjustment process to me. After that first visit, I left the office feeling much less pain and was no longer as hesitant about the next appointment.
This memory came to mind as the Bible Study teacher’s words made me sit up straight as an arrow.
“If you are overwhelmed by discouragement, you need an adjustment.”
Suddenly, the word ‘adjustment’ made me picture myself lying on a chiropractic table in my mind. I could almost hear the bones in my neck and spine pop into place. But I knew that the teacher’s words were not about a spine adjustment, but a heart adjustment. When I am overwhelmed by discouragement or any other emotion, my eyes focus on myself or my circumstances instead of on the character of God, who can handle everything.
King Solomon understood the importance of heart condition when he wrote the words:
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23, NIV).
The heart is the center of our inner self. It’s very important to take care of our heart’s condition. If my heart is out of balance, my whole life will be out of balance. Our thoughts, feelings, words, and actions come from our hearts. In fact, everything we do originates from the heart.
Jesus stretched out His back on a wooden beam to open the way for me to be in right relationship with Holy God. Only through His obedience to the Father’s will was it possible for me to be made right with Him. The way back to a right relationship is through confession of sin and repentance. Although not a popular word, repentance is actually a word of great love—a love that brings forgiveness, freedom, peace, and great joy. It is a daily practice of repentance that aligns the heart with God.
I need to lay my heart on His altar and let His loving hands align me with His truth. When I allow Him to apply His Word to my life, everything untangles and comes into alignment. The question is: Do I want my heart to line up with His will and His way more than my own?
Prayer
Pray Psalm 139:23-24: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Application
Don’t wait for pain to bring you to the table of surrender. Pray daily, asking God to search your heart and align it with His will.
