He Wants to Make Your Path Straight

Written by Shana Schutte

Ask for help, trust Him, and listen.”

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – February 23, 2021

Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; ‘I am the LORD your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go. Isaiah 48:17

I can be a little bit like a bumble bee, flitting here and there from this project to that one. I’m creative and so I’m always saying to my husband, “Hey! I have an idea!” While getting new ideas can be a lot of fun, it also means I can—unfortunately—be easily distracted. I have so many thoughts about things I can create and visions I can develop that I sometimes suffer from “shiny object syndrome.” And I really want to get a handle on this part of my personality.

The truth is that not every idea is a best idea. Although it may be a good one, not every idea is an idea God wants me to follow. I don’t want to live my life doing good work but miss His plans. So, this morning as I sat with the Lord, I asked for guidance, for Him to show me the way He wants me to go in my work, and to give me the answers I need so I know which ideas to pursue. I want my work to glorify Him and help others as much as possible.

As He is faithful to do during my time with Him, He revealed His truth to me. It’s as if He gave me the following words which provided me with a road map for how to know which way to go: ask for help, trust Him, and listen.

If you relate to feeling a little like a bumble bee flitting here and there in life, I hope you are encouraged. He wants to make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).

There isn’t a question you will ask that I cannot answer. You will never wonder about anything that I do not know. From beginning to end, I am God. Before you even come to Me, My answer is readied for you. My answers are not like the answers of men. They are not guesses based on man’s wisdom. They are truth because I know the beginning from the end, and I am the Creator of all that is.

My answers will give you clarity and guidance. My answers will make you like an arrow, shooting straight toward the mark. I want to save you from wandering from this false solution to that one. Trust Me. You must trust Me. I will give you the answers you need. Yes, it’s easier to lean on your own answers. It feels safer because I often work in the dark. Trust Me. I will show you the way.

Be encouraged! If you don’t know which way to go, call out to Him. He is ready to answer and wants to guide you. He isn’t stingy with His wisdom. He doesn’t hold back from sharing His truth with His kids, and He doesn’t give begrudgingly.

Praise God!

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him” (James 1:5).

Prayer

Lord, how I praise you that you know all things. You know the way I should go because you know the beginning from the end, and you have a path for me to walk that is good. Help me to ask you for help and listen to you! I love you, Jesus. Amen.

Application

Take a few moments and thank God that he hears our prayers and loves to give his wisdom freely.
