“Abundance comes from Who you hold on to, not what you hold.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – November 14, 2025
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10, ESV
Our Good Shepherd, Jesus, generously pours out His love, while the thief (false teachers, the devil) steals our freedom in Christ. The thief takes away grace, kills truth, and destroys relationships. Jesus grants freedom from sin and self-deception, brings truth to life to guide us in wise living, and elevates relationships to a deeper, lasting love. Where the thief leaves emptiness, Jesus fills with purpose. His abundance is not found in possessions but in peace, not in control but in surrender. Our Lord restores what sin destroys, mends what evil breaks, and multiplies joy in surrendered hearts. Charles Spurgeon affirms these truths, “The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy; but Christ comes to give. Everything about Jesus is life-giving—He robs no man of anything but his sin.” So, stay close to Christ and experience God’s amazing abundance.
Fear of loss can lead to a scarcity mindset, which, over time, can falsely reduce God’s power to a passive concern. A life controlled by scarcity is trapped in a self-centered cycle, unable to break free to serve and care for others. Henri Nouwen warns about the dangers of this thinking, “This sense of scarcity makes us desperate, and we turn to competition, hoarding, and a kind of parody of self-preservation. This greed extends not only to material goods but also to knowledge, friendships, and ideas. We worry that everything we possess is threatened.” What a difficult way to live, worried that you might lose everything when God abundantly provides all you need.
If you are fair-minded and review the Lord’s track record of faithfulness in your life, what comes to mind? The answered prayer that exceeded your expectations? The open door of opportunity that seemed to come out of nowhere? Or, the relational riches that have grown over decades, not because there have been no challenges, but because the pain has been met with forgiveness and healing, resulting in much stronger relationships in Christ? True abundance is abiding in Christ.
What opportunities might you encounter through your abundant life in Christ? You could be surprised by the joy that comes from taking the next step of obedience toward an unfamiliar situation, which will prove to be what’s best for you and your family. Stepping out of your comfort zone into the cost of discipleship offers its own unique way of experiencing God’s love at a level you have never known—His peace that passes all understanding. The abundant love of the Almighty is the foundation of the abundant life Jesus, the Good Shepherd, gives to His flock.
An abundant life founded on love and obedience cannot be shaken by sin, Satan, or self-deception. Find rest in His abundance by abiding in Christ. Lean into the One who can “Do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us” (Ephesians 3:20). As you walk in His Spirit, your desires align with His will, your worries lose their hold, and gratitude becomes your default response. Abundance comes from Who you hold on to, not what you hold. In Christ, every limitation becomes an opportunity to be surprised by grace, and each day is an amazing adventure of living abundantly loved by your heavenly Father!
“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8).

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your abundant love that never ends. Fill my heart to overflow with Your grace, that I may love others as freely as You love me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
