God Goes With You

Written by Shana Schutte

Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – August 4, 2020

And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:14

When I first accepted Christ, I believed Jesus died on the cross to save me, but He didn’t care about anything other than my salvation. I thought He was only concerned about getting me to heaven and that was it. I believed that part of carrying my cross was just slogging through life and learning the lessons I needed to learn until I went home to glory. I didn’t believe God cared about my broken heart, broken relationships, and dashed dreams—and that hurt! But how wrong I was!

As I grew in faith and came to understand more about Jesus’ love for me, I realized He cares about all that concerns me, not just about my salvation.

If you can relate, or if you doubt Christ’s presence in your life, if you wonder if He is with you no matter what you do, or if you question His love, I invite you to imagine that He is sitting with you now, speaking these words.

I have always been a part of your story, Dear One—since your beginning, since before your beginning (Jeremiah 1:5). I have always been with you because I am Love and I made you (Psalm 139:16). I am the beginning and the end of all that concerns you (Revelation 22:13). I am in the middle of your story, right now, in this moment. And, I have gone ahead of you in your story because I AM. There is nowhere in your life that I do not touch (Hebrews 4:13). There is no word that you speak that I do not hear, no thought you think that I am not aware of. I know you intimately, even more intimately than you know yourself—and I love you. No matter what you do, I will never leave you or forsake you.  You are mine.

Because you are mine and I made you, because I love you, I will always be a part of your story. There is nothing in your life that doesn’t concern me (1 Peter 5:7). I. Am. Always. With. You.

I care about your sleepless nights, your failed friendships, and your difficult days at work. I care about your yesterday, today, and tomorrow. I care about your family, finances, friendships, and faith. I care about your purpose, plans, and pressures, I care about all that concerns you because you belong to Me.

You need not fear what is ahead or regret what is behind. I am working it all together for your good and my glory (Jeremiah 29:11). You may not be able to see it now. It may not make sense to you. But when you see me face-to-face, you will know as you are fully known (1 Corinthians 13:12). And you will experience perfect peace in my presence. Until then, remember that I am here with you, and each day focus on my presence. Talk with me. Share your life with me. I already know. I love you (John 3:16).

“Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence” (Psalm 139:7)?

Prayer

Lord, because of unbelief and the hardness of my heart, and sometimes because I get so busy, it can be difficult to remember that you are always with me. I rush about and forget that you are with me, right now and always. Help me to focus on your presence and always talk with you throughout the day. Help me be mindful that you are always with me. Amen.

Application

Set several times throughout the day when you stop to remember that Jesus is with you. Invite Him into your daily moments and thank Him for His faithful presence.
