“Be glad in God, knowing this is the day He has made, and you can rejoice and be glad in it.”
Thoughts from daily Bible reading for today – October 27, 2025
Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; Let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. Psalm 149:2
Think about the last time someone complimented something you made—a meal, a project, or a piece of art. Recall that warm feeling of being recognized. Now imagine being God’s handiwork and having every reason to celebrate the One who crafted you. In Psalm 149:2, Israel wasn’t just any nation that happened to choose God—they were Israel precisely because God made them so. Their entire identity, their covenant relationship, and their purpose in history—all of it flows from His creative and redemptive work. When you rejoice in your Maker, you’re celebrating the One who gave you your very existence and meaning. You choose gladness in the Lord! But here’s where it gets even better: the Almighty isn’t just Creator—He’s King. We get to rejoice not only because God made us, but because He rules over us with wisdom, protection, and love. His kingship isn’t tyrannical; it’s the gentle governance of someone who knows exactly what’s best for His people. You can be glad in God, since you are secure in His protection and guidance.
For Christians, this joy runs even deeper. We’ve been renewed in Christ, which means we always have fresh reasons to sing a new song. This isn’t just optional happiness—it’s the natural response of changed hearts. The wonderful thing about joy directed upward is that it doesn’t depend on circumstances. Even when life gets tough, God’s character and His loving rule over your life give you a firm ground for gladness. Your identity isn’t based on your performance or achievements—it’s rooted in the fact that the King of the universe personally made you and delights in you. That’s worth celebrating every single day. How can we find joy in Jesus?
Joy in Jesus starts with remembering what He’s already done. When you’re feeling discouraged in the morning, remind yourself: your sins are forgiven, your future is secure, and God calls you His beloved child. These aren’t just feelings to chase—they’re facts to trust. You find joy in prayerfully engaging with God’s Word, not as a duty but as a conversation with Someone who loves you. Jesus reveals Himself through His words, and understanding Him better naturally brings joy. Solitude becomes a celebration when you realize you’re talking to the One who delights in you. Those who met Jesus often left rejoicing in His forgiveness and healing.
Gratitude is a friendly facilitator of joy. Look for signs of God’s kindness in every day moments—like a friend’s text, a sunset, or provisions for daily needs. Giving thanks trains your heart to notice the Lord’s goodness even during difficult times. Serve others in Jesus’ name. Joy grows when shared. Whether you’re comforting someone who is grieving, helping someone who’s struggling, or simply listening with love, you’re showing Christ’s love, and that brings deep fulfillment. Remember, joy isn’t constant happiness; it’s a steady confidence in God’s character and promises. Some days you’ll feel joyful, and other days you’ll choose joy by acting on truth rather than feelings. Both are valid ways to trust in Jesus. Surround yourself with other believers who infect you with joy. Community provides encouragement when joy feels far away and celebration when joy overflows. Joy shared is joy multiplied. The secret isn’t finding joy in your circumstances but finding Jesus in your circumstances—and realizing He fully loves you. Be glad in God, knowing this is the day He has made, and you can rejoice and be glad in it.
“This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24, NKJV).
