A Turning Point

Written by Boyd Bailey

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!” And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth with it, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged.” Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” Isaiah 6:1-9

The worship at Charlie Kirk’s memorial service lifted me and other Jesus followers into the presence of God. Not trivial, but very sacred—a holy moment. Tears of grief. Tears of love. Tears of gratitude. Tears of hope. We seem to be living in a very real turning point—a turning to the Lord. A turning to the truth of God’s Word. A turning to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Regardless of your political preference, all Americans can and should unite around the values of love of God, love of country, and love for one another. A turning point is taking place in the next generation as young people are pursuing the Lord and building a community of Jesus followers who are bold to say, “Cleanse me, make me pure of heart and mind. Here I am, Lord, send me!”

Isaiah mourned the loss of his friend King Uzziah; it became a sacred moment to see the Lord high and lifted up. People across our nation are grieving. In our pain, we can look up to the God of heaven for comfort and pray for the fire of the Holy Spirit to fall on every person in America. Jesus clearly commissioned us as His disciples to make disciples— to love each other in a way that makes the world notice that we follow Jesus through our words and actions, loving like the Lord loves, generously. Just as Isaiah faced uncertainty with bold faith, so must we do the same!

Isaiah is living through a time when everything stable is falling apart. King Uzziah, who had ruled for over fifty years, has just died. The economy is unstable, enemies are threatening, and people are wondering what will happen next. Amid this chaos, a young man named Isaiah has an experience that changes everything. While he’s in the temple, suddenly the walls seem to vanish, and he faces the throne room of heaven itself. God is seated on His throne, so magnificent that even the angelic beings around Him—seraphim with six wings—are covering their faces and feet in reverence. They are calling out, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!” The sound shakes the temple’s foundations, and holiness engulfed the area.

Isaiah doesn’t feel inspired or uplifted. He’s terrified. When you encounter true holiness, your first response isn’t “How wonderful!” but “I’m doomed!” Isaiah cries out, “Woe is me! I am undone! I am a man of unclean lips living among people with unclean lips.” That’s the effect of genuine holiness—it reveals our true condition. But immediately, grace intervenes. One of the seraphim flies over with a burning coal from the altar and touches Isaiah’s lips, declaring his guilt removed and sin atoned for. Only then—after conviction and cleansing—comes the commissioning. God asks, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” And Isaiah, now purified and ready, responds, “Here am I! Send me.” This sequence matters: you encounter holiness, conviction of sin, experience of grace, and then willingness to serve. You can’t skip these cleansing steps in His divine process. Will you embrace this turning point back to our Lord Jesus? Will you bow in repentance in the face of our holy Creator? Will you pray, “Here I am Lord, send me!” Isaiah did. Charlie did. What about you? Go boldly in the power of the Spirit!

“For he [Barnabas] was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.” Acts 11:24

Prayer

Lord, I turn to You in faith, trusting Your promises; in love, seeking Your presence; and in obedience, surrendering my will. Shape my life to reflect Your glory always. In Jesus’ name, amen.
